Before Yo-kai Watch it was all about dark fantasy series GeGeGe no Kitaro when it came to the folklore creatures in Japanese pop culture, and they’ll be doing an iconic yokai collaboration that will bring the yokai boy Kitaro and his eyeball father Medama-oyaji in Yo-kai Watch 4, according to the latest issue of Famitsu magazine. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089.]
GeGeGe no Kitaro was created in 1960 by Shigeru Mizuki for Weekly Shonen Magazine, and it was best known in Japan for its popularization of the folklore creatures, known as yokai. The series has seen several anime series over the decades with the latest one (6th series) that started in April 2018. It also had a couple live-action films and video games in Japan.
The magazine doesn’t go too much into detail on what the collaboration is about, but Kitaro will appear more in the form of a guest, so he won’t play any important roles in the story.
Yo-kai Watch 4 releases for Nintendo Switch in Japan on June 6, 2019. In case you missed it, check our previous report for a look at the game’s updated version of the popular “Gera Gera Po Song.”
