Back in May 2024, Good Smile Company announced that the comic cat Garfield would join its line of Nendoroid figures. Now as part of WonFes 2024 Shanghai, the first prototype of the figure appeared.
The Garfield prototype is an unpainted one. As such, all the painting and coloring is unfinished. However, stripes on the cat’s tail and back appear, and there are already markings on his ears. It also shows how the original concept art, which appeared in May 2024, influenced the current design.
Here’s the latest look at the Nendoroid. Only one face plate is shown, and it features Garfield with an assured smile. There are no accessories in the photo. Also, the pose shows there will be arm parts that allow them to be crossed across his chest.
Garfield won’t be the only animal from a US comic to show up in the Nendoroid line, though he is the first cat one. There was already a Snoopy one from Peanuts. That showed up earlier in 2024 and was accompanied by a Woodstock the bird accessory.
There’s no release date yet for the Garfield Nendoroid. The comic is available in newspapers and online via GoComics. The Garfield CG animated movie debuted in theaters in May 2024, about when the Nendoroid was first announced.
