gamescom 2021 Will Be Digital and Free

There won’t be a physical gamescom 2021 presentation, as The German Games Industry Association will go digital again this year. The nationwide event ban led to gamescom 2020 being canceled and going online-only. Now again it will be free for anyone to watch and virtually attend starting on August 23, 2021. The goal is to keep people healthy and safe as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

A few of the online “events” also came up. devcom will kick gamescom 2021 off on April 23, 2021, for example. Then there will be Geoff Keighley’s gamescom Opening Night Live on August 24, 2021. (Keighley hosted the same show in 2020 and showed off over 20 upcoming games during it.) Additional events will follow between August 26-27, 2021.

This is the second recent, formerly physical event to mention going all-digital and free for the sake of safety and security concerns. The ESA confirmed E3 2021 would be an online-only event back in April 2021. Since then, companies like Konami, Square Enix, and Ubisoft announced their plans.

gamescom 2021 will be held August 23-27, 2021. People can tune in at the official website for free to take part in the experiences. Additional announcements about its streams and virtual events will appear leading up to the event.
