10 Games We Want to Play on the PS5 Pro

The PlayStation 5 Pro comes with numerous enhancements and greater power. These improvements allow many games to run at the highly coveted 60 frames-per-second many of us prefer, while still retaining the visual fidelity this generation can offer in 4K. As such, here are 10 games — both already released and upcoming — I can’t wait to play on the PS5 Pro with all of these changes.

1. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

If there is a game that will be the ultimate showcase for the PS5 Pro’s power, it is Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. We already know the beloved second title in the JRPG remake series will receive some enhancements. While it looks gorgeous, there were some rough edges playing in Performance Mode. I look forward to seeing how the many different open areas look and perform with the new system.

2. The Last of Us Part II

I played through this sequel far too quickly back when it first released in 2020. Ellie’s tale is so riveting and detailed. With the fast and sometimes challenging combat, it will be nice to see how it performs on the PS5 Pro. In addition, replaying this will be a great way to prepare for the second season of the phenomenal TV series.

3. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2 is perhaps the largest victim of the Graphics vs. Performance Mode debate. I get somewhat nauseous playing this in Graphics Mode without the 60FPS swinging around New York City, so I had to play in Performance originally. However, that made the game’s visuals suffer a bit. I look forward to being able to experience rendered fully in 4K but without the upset stomach, especially if there is any possible DLC in the future.

4. Ghost of Tsushima

One of my greatest video game shames is never finishing Ghost of Tsushima. I adored this game for the 15 or so hours I put into it, but I got busy and never came back. At the time of its release, this open-world game had the most impressive and stunning world I’ve ever seen in a game with its striking colors. I look forward to seeing if I still think the same checking it out on the PS5 Pro.

5. Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart

With how much I’m getting back into platformers on PS5 again with the release of Astro Bot, it is high time I rectify missing out on this Ratchet & Clank adventure. The game was already a showstopper on PS5 for its use of portals and instant transfers between environments. I imagine it will be a similar situation with the upgrades it will receive on PS5 Pro.

6. Metaphor Re:Fantazio

When it comes to upcoming games, there is no title I am more excited for today than Metaphor Re:Fantazio. I previewed this game already on Xbox, and it evolves the genre-defining JRPG gameplay from Persona 5 while having one of the best art styles I’ve ever seen. It comes out in early October so it will be neat to directly compare how it looks on PS5 to Pro when it releases in November.

7. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

The Black Ops 6 beta was pretty good on PS5, but I felt like the visuals surprisingly lacked a bit. It seems there could be concessions graphically to ensure the buttery smooth gameplay needed for an FPS title like this one. I could very well see the PS5 Pro being necessary to get the vibrant presentation and performance PC players already have.

8. Dragon Age: The Veilguard

BioWare has so much to prove with the upcoming Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Though its system requirements make it seem like a not-so-hefty experience, it utilizes a fascinating stylized look to match its action RPG gameplay. With its release about a week before the PS5 Pro’s arrival, the timing couldn’t be any better.

9. Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The first PS5 game I got and played through to its entirety was Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. It was a fantastic showcase for the new console, as a massive open-world game with a lot going on. Now, fast forward to the PS5 Pro and Assassin’s Creed Shadows could do the same in 2024. The long-awaited journey to feudal Japan just begs to be explored with the highest possible graphical power as the two distinct protagonists.

10. Marvel’s Wolverine

Looking ahead to the future of the games we want to play on PS5 Pro, Insomniac has released banger after banger during this PS5 generation. I fully expect Marvel’s Wolverine to be yet another successful hit for the studio, whether it comes out in 2025 or beyond. The presumed highly detailed Marvel world and fast-paced gameplay as this popular superhero mutant will likely benefit well from the PS5 Pro. Since this is unlikely to be on PC at launch, the best way to play it will presumably be on the Pro console.

The PS5 Pro will release on November 7, 2024. Pre-orders will begin on September 26, 2024.
