People follow Trip, a young woman who is heading to the west on a journey alongside Monkey, a man she met when escaping a slave ship. While it is sort of an “escort mission” game, with him guiding her and keeping her safe, it’s handled very well! It is also set in a post-apocalyptic world, offering an unusual take on the myth.

If you like the setting of Black Myth: Wukong, try Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.
The time period isn’t exactly the same. With Black Myth: Wukong, Game Science takes us to “ancient China,” and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a game set during the Han Dynasty. So the timing is sort of similar? You’re still getting that historical appeal. Both games are also set during China, so the atmosphere isn’t dissimilar as well. Wo Long also features similar sorts of gameplay, with players challenging famous figures, so you might dig it for that reason as well!

Okay, since I’m making this list, I 100% can be a little silly with it if I want. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotis a really fun game! Sure, it completely goes off of the Journey to the West story pretty quickly. But it’s a substantial game! Son Goku is based on Sun Wukong too! He uses a staff, just like the Destined One! He was able to transform, before he lost his tail!
Yes. It’s a stretch. But if you need a little levity after a more serious game, this could offer it.
