Game of Thrones is based on the HBO television series of the same name. However, the story in Cyanide Studios’ title will be different. The video game follows two original characters who are former soldiers of Robert’s rebellion. Players will meet other characters from the series and decisions you make during your quest will affect the Kingdom of Westeros. George R. R. Martin author of A Song of Ice and Fire, the original source material, is writing the storyline for the Game of Thrones video game.

Cyanide Studios hopes to capture the series’ mix of war and politics with their active slowdown tactical combat engine. Fights never stop entirely in Game of Thrones, but the action slows down enough to give players time to make choices in the heat of battle.  Game of Thrones will be released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC in early 2012. Season 2 of the network TV series is scheduled to air in April 2012 and we’re guessing the video game can’t be to far from that date.
