The free sale offer is only available on the Japanese Google Play Store and Apple App Store. While the game app is also available in other countries worldwide, the game’s page in other countries and regions like the U.S. only shows its regular pricing.

For the record, Kairosoft first tweeted the free offer on its Japanese X account on October 8, 2024, at 11:10 AM JST. That means people who can access the Japanese app stores have until October 9, 2024, from around 11 AM to noon JST to get Game Dev Story for free.

Kairosoft is also simultaneously holding a flash sale for Game Dev Story on other platforms. The Japanese Nintendo Switch version has a 67% sale from ¥1,500 to ¥495 until October 8, 2024, at 9:59 PM JST (08:59 AM ET). The Japanese PlayStation 4 edition is also having a 50% discount at ¥750 until October 9, 2024, at 11:59 PM (10:59 AM ET).

The PC release of Game Dev Story on Steam is also having a sale, and this is the only one that applies worldwide. Steam users can get the game with a 50% discount at $4.49 until October 12, 2024, at 5 PM UTC (1 PM ET).

Game Dev Story is available worldwide on PC, iOS, Android, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox platforms. The iOS version is also available via Apple Arcade.
