On December 11, 2020, a Funimation Switch app was teased on Twitter. People didn’t have to wait long to find out what was going on. The company announced it will offer a means of streaming anime on the system starting on December 15, 2020 in the United States and Mexico. This will make it the first anime streaming app on the system. Currently, the only way to stream videos is with the Switch YouTube app or Hulu.
The Funimation Switch app won’t be identical to the ones you see on other systems right now. The announcement included a video looking at a new UI for the service. You’ll be able to see a schedule showing when series will debut, this season will look at current shows, there will be a My Anime page to make it easier to find your shows, and it will have a genres section where anime on the service will appear in categories like Comedy, Drama, and Fan Service.
Here’s the announcement video.
You’ll never put it down again. Anime arrives on the Nintendo Switch for the very first time via the refreshing new look of the Funimation App. Coming tomorrow! @NintendoAmerica
