Square only ended up releasing one Final Fantasy game for the NES, but there were three Final Fantasy games for the Famicom. Final Fantasy II (the NES one with Firion and Maria) was translated and Square planned to release it as Final Fantasy II: Dark Shadow over Palakia. Lost Levels posted a unpolished translated version of Final Fantasy II for NES and scans showing a cartoonish logo.

A new flyer from the Consumer Electronics Show found by the Lost Levels, reveals Squaresoft planned on bringing over Final Fantasy III (the one with Onion Knights and the job change system) to North America too. The advertisement says "FF III will continue the saga with even more sophisticated strategies required." Mock up box art shows some kind of sea monster clutching driftwood from a broken ship. Perhaps, that’s supposed to be Nepto Dragon?
