Natsume’s Book of Friends is a long-running manga series that started serialization in 2003. An anime adaptation came out in 2008 and is still ongoing. The story follows Takashi Natsume, an orphan boy who didn’t have any friends due to his ability to see yokai. He later comes to possess his grandmother Reiko’s Book of Friends, which she used to take the names of yokai and bind them to her will. With the help of the spirit Madara (whom Takashi nicknames Nyanko-sensei due to him looking like a fat mascot cat), he resolves to return the names of all the yokai in the book.
Natsume’s Book of Friends is available on Crunchyroll, and you can read the manga via Viz. More information on Natsume’s Book of Friends: Hazuki no Shirushi will come out on December 23, 2024 JST.
