Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata made his first post on the game’s official forums, where he shared details on the latest changes to the game’s battle system.
To put it simply, the new change makes it so that you can switch through your weapons while attacking, rather than having preset weapons for the attacks. Tabata noted that it might be a little complicated, but he shared the following details for those of you that are interested.
The real-time weapon switching system is a system that will allow you to switch between four main weapons. The weapons are set to the up, down, left, and right keys on the D-pad, and you’ll get to switch through them in real-time.
In the Episode Duscae demo there was the Break→Rush→Slash system, which  has now been changed in order to prevent the unintended weapon switch timings that came with it, and the real-time weapon switching system will now allow you to pull off the consecutive attacks with any of the main weapons while switching through in real-time at your command.
So instead of setting weapons for each of Break, Rush, and Slash, the new system will offer more options for you to change things up while pulling off combos. Hopefully we’ll learn more about it in the near future with some visual demonstrations.
As for attacks such as Counter and Raid (Jump attack) that are done directly from the player’s command, you can pull them off with the main weapons if they’re not set to anything, but you’ll still get to set weapons and have it switch to them as well.
Final Fantasy XV is expected to release in 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
