Final Fantasy XIV Surpasses 25 Million Users

Final Fantasy XIV now has more than 25 million users. This figure applies to registered accounts. The statistic comes from the development team at Square Enix, which held a pre-launch stream event for the Endwalker expansion. The figure is a total of all Final Fantasy XIV users in the five official regions where the game is offered: Japan, North America, Europe, China, and South Korea. [Thanks, Famitsu.]

If one were to assume that all registered users equated to distinct characters in-game, the population of Final Fantasy XIV would make the 55th most-populous nation in the world, behind Australia, North Korea, and ahead of Cameroon. That said, it wouldn’t be a strictly accurate assumption. The figure isn’t reflective of active subscriptions, or “copies sold.” This is because the total includes free trial accounts, and doesn’t doesn’t distinguish between players holding multiple accounts. Among MMORPGs ,FFXIV‘s registered user count is relatively modest. World of Warcraft boasted over 100 million accounts by 2014.

The number of accounts grew significantly in 2021. In April 2021, Square Enix announced it had 22 million FFXIV users. As of October 2021, it was 24 million.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker opens early access on December 3, 2021 and launches globally on December 7, 2021 for PC, PS4, and PS5. Players interested in buying full access to all the content available on launch day can check out this guide.
