Square Enix has revealed that it will release new Final Fantasy XIV short stories leading up to the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker expansion. The official website currently has a schedule for when new Final Fantasy XIV short stories will appear. The first story is currently available to read and focuses on Yugiri Mistwalker and her relationship with Hien, the Emperor of Doma. The short story is currently available to read in Japanese and English.
A total of five short stories set within the universe of Final Fantasy XIV are scheduled for release. However, information regarding the content of these short stories has yet to be revealed. The schedule of release for the remaining short stories is as follows:
- September 3, 2021
- September 10, 2021
- September 17, 2021
- September 24, 2021
The first short story, which is immediately available to read, is about the childhood of Yugiri Mistwalker and Hien. Titled, “The Burden of Duty,” it explores the relationship they shared as children and how it has impacted their interactions in their adulthood. It also goes into detail as to how Hien received his signature scar. However, the short story does feature a fair bit of spoilers.
In the past, Square Enix has released similar short stories. This has included short stories featuring Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers antagonist Emet-Selch and his relationship with the other Ascians.
Final Fantasy XIV is immediately available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker will release on November 23, 2021. Those who have pre-ordered the expansion will have access on November 19, 2021.
