Square Enix hosted a Final Fantasy XIV Fan Gathering in London, where director and producer Naoki Yoshida noted he was hopeful about a possible PlayStation 5 version of the MMORPG. [Thanks, @FFUKFans, Wcctech.]
This fan event is where attendees got to participate in a raffle to win a Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers PS4 signed by Naoki Yoshida. After handing out the top prize, Yoshida took to the stage to say that while the top prize of this year’s fan event was a Final Fantasy XIV PlayStation 4, he hopes that next year’s could be a PlayStation 5. Initial reports from the event suggested he said that the team was “hard at work on the PlayStation 5 version of Final Fantasy XIV.” However, an official statement later released by PR said, “While not a confirmation, Yoshida-san expressed a hope that Final Fantasy XIV Online may one day appear on the next generation of Sony console.”
Final Fantasy XIV is available for PlayStation 4 and PC. In case you missed it, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer recently said that an Xbox One version is in the works. Check our previous report for details on the game’s latest patch plus a message from Yoko Taro about the NieR raid, and more.
Editor’s Note: This article originally suggested that Final Fantasy XIV is currently in development for the PlayStation 5 and Yoshida announced it was in development. An official statement has come in clarifying things.
