Japanese chip Brand Koikeya and Square Enix recently teased a collaboration that would feature Final Fantasy XIV characters and elements like the popoto on a line of potato chips. Koikeya has now revealed more information about the crossover, including the packaging of the chips and the characters featured. The new collaboration will release in Japan on August 25, 2023.
The potato chip packaging of the new Koikeya Final Fantasy XIV Eorzea Pototo Chips will feature several familiar images from the game, including the Island Sanctuary included in the Endwalker expansion. Additionally, packages will also feature a variety of characters eating the chips like the Fat Chocobo, Loporrit, Namazu, Dust Bunny, and Tataru Taru.
The potato chips are described as Crystal of Light rock salt-flavored, as a nod to the crystals in FFXIV and the Final Fantasy series. In FFXIV, popotos are described as a “starchy tuberous vegetables introduced to Eorzea by explorers from the distant western continent.” The Western continent is most likely Tural, the “New World” that will be introduced in the upcoming Dawntrail expansion.
