The Grand Company players join is a crucial decision you have to make pretty early on in Final Fantasy XIV. You have three options to choose from — Maelstrom, Twin Adder, and Immortal Flames — so it can be hard to determine the best overall FFXIV Grand Company. To help, here are the Final Fantasy XIV Grand Companies ranked.
What’s the Best FFXIV Grand Company?
To be clear, I personally believe there is no singular best Grand Company to choose. In the end, pick the one that best suits you. In fact, there aren’t too many differences between the three factions, besides location, color scheme/emblem, and PvP. Location and the style of the Grand Company are some of the best ways to figure out the best one for you.
You can find the Maelstrom in Limsa Lominsa, Immortal Flames in Ul’dah, and Order of the Twin Adder in Gridania. If you have a preference for location, such as the city state you started in, that may make your choice right there. Or you could base it on your Free Company. Each FC picks a Grand Company to align itself with, so it can helpful to ally with the same faction as your Free Company, but this isn’t required.
Final Fantasy XIV Grand Companies Ranked for PvP
Now, there is one final piece of the puzzle worth considering when it comes to the best FFXIV Grand Company: PvP. When you go into PvP, unless you queue as a freelancer, your team will be your Grand Company. For better or worse, some factions seem to have a better chance at winning PvP matches than others.
As such, here are the three Final Fantasy XIV Grand Companies ranked based on PvP success from best to worse in my experience on my Data Center:
- Maelstrom: These are the sweatiest players I’ve ever seen. They win more often than not in my experience, much more so than the other two.
- Immortal Flames: This is my personal Grand Company. It is much closer to the Twin Adder but narrowly wins a bit more in my experience.
- Twin Adder: Still a solid faction and the most colorful city state; just be aware you might lose in PvP.
Final Fantasy XIV is available right now for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
