Final Fantasy VI is coming to iOS and Android devices this winter, Square Enix have revealed to Kotaku. The smartphone version won’t be a direct port of Final Fantasy VI, but will instead be an enhanced version, similar to the recent Final Fantasy V release.

Like Final Fantasy V, while the smartphone port of VI will still feature the same 2D visuals as the original game, they will be sharpened for their smartphone release.

Other enhancements made to the game will include adjustments to the battle system so that less grinding is required than before.

Additionally, Square Enix producer Takashi Tokita hopes that the company will be able to bring Final Fantasy VII to phones one day as well.

“We are aware that we have tons of VII fans,” Tokita shared. “We have VII fans in our own company. If this Legacy project works out well, we would like to one day be able to work with VII.”
