Final Fantasy series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi opened about the development of upcoming mobile title Fantasian, this included Nobuo Uematsu’s involvement. Sakaguchi shared his feelings about Fantasian and what the development team wanted to capture in this 2D and 3D hybrid RPG. Sakaguchi also detailed various segments in the game that harken back to previous titles he worked on such as Lost Odyssey. [Thanks, Famitsu!]
Sakaguchi confirmed that the music heard in the latest Fantasian trailer was in fact by Final Fantasy series composer Nobuo Uematsu. Uematsu will provide the score for Fantasian. Sakaguchi elaborated, stating that Uematsu has truly made something amazing for the Fantasian soundtrack.
Additionally, Dragon Ball series creator Akira Toriyama contributed to Fantasian as well. Under a pseudonym, Toriyama participated in the diorama contest. The diorama Toriyama created will appear in Fantasian. Details regarding what kind of environment Toriyama made were not given, so players will simply need to wait and see.
Additionally, Fantasian will feature novel segments similar to Lost Odyssey. Outside of the being the creator of the Final Fantasy series, Sakaguchi has created several other IPs under Mistwalker. Lost Odyssy being one of them. Sakaguchi mentioned that these segments that draw from Lost Odyssey are skippable. Though he asks players to go back and read them if they can.
He also mentions that the situation surrounding COVID-19 did impact the development of Fantasian. However, Sakaguchi said that development proceeded smoothly due to the hard work of all of the Mistwalker team members involved.
Fantasian will come to Apple Arcade for Apple iOS devices in 2021.
