After reaching a six-heart relationship with March, complete the day as you usually would. The next morning, March will have sent you a letter. In it, he offers you part-time work at the blacksmith. All you have to do is show up! The event will activate whenever you enter the shop, regardless of time or day. If you have unrelated business at the blacksmith shop, you’ll need to sit through the whole event (or skip it) first. When you’re ready, head to the shop and go inside.

March and Olric are huddled in a corner of their store. They’re going over their schedule of commissions. Upon your arrival, they’ll greet you, explaining your help would be much appreciated. March will act in a begrudging fashion. You can respond enthusiastically at his expense by telling him not to be shy about asking for help, or match his aloofness by saying your help will be beneficial to the town. In either case, Adeline will interrupt your conversation.

Adeline has a rush request for a ceremonial shield. Her mother will receive it in honor of her work at the capital. However, the shield needs to be ready by the end of the day. March shows eagerness to craft the shield. Many important people will be able to see the quality of his work, but he’s apprehensive. You have the option to bolster March’s confidence by saying you’ll help him make the shield. Alternatively, you can accept the job on his behalf by telling Adeline to leave it to the both of you. No matter what you choose, you and March will head outside to the forge to make the shield.

The shield will eventually be ready for the finishing touches. March will ask you to hold it down so he can apply the detailing. However, your hand placement won’t be up to his standards. March will move over to where you’re standing and grab your hands. He will move them to where you need to hold the shield. March will hold your hand for a while longer than he needs to. Then he’ll return to his side of the anvil.

March will apply the final details to the shield. Adeline will come by to pick it up and thank the both of you for the hard work! You can ask the blacksmiths if they need help with the rest of their orders. You can also tell them you all make a great team. Olric will let you know that Adeline went around getting extensions for their working orders. Your help is no longer necessary!
