During Final Fantasy XIV Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida’s opening remarks at the Endwalker 2021 Media Tour, he revealed how many people play now. After 11 years of service, the player base hit 24 million FFXIV people. Yoshida also mentioned that it is the most profitable Final Fantasy game.
This is a marked increase even in 2021. Back in April 2021, Square Enix offered an update on how many people play FFXIV. It said the player base, which included people taking part in the free trial, passed 22 million people. As a result, congestion increased in-game. While Square Enix did increase the login caps and initiate auto-logout, there are still overcrowding issues. For example, the Aether Data Center worlds are now officially “congested.”
As Yoshida noted in an interview with Siliconera during the 2021 Media Tour, Square Enix and the team are making efforts to deal with the increased FFXIV player base. He committed to avoiding an “I beat Raubahn Extreme” experience like with Stormblood in Endwalker. He also mentioned the desire to eventually add extra servers when possible and take other measures.
Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC. FFXIV Endwalker will launch on November 23, 2021. People who pre-order will gain access on November 19, 2021.
