The next content update for Final Fantasy XIV will add some new challenges for its players. According to the latest Letter From The Producer Live broadcast, FFXIV Patch 6.3 will add a new dungeon, a new trial, and a new Alliance Raid.
The new FFXIV Patch 6.3 dungeon already has a name: The Lapis Manalis. It will be included as part of the new Main Scenario content, meaning players will visit it as part of the story. Screenshots of the environment reveal a frozen area, as well as an underground cavern lit by blue fire.
In addition to the dungeon, the team is adding new Trial content, where players in parties take on single, complex boss encounters. An entirely new trial will be added in FFXIV Patch 6.3, but its name is currently secret. The Trial will have an Extreme-difficulty version. What’s not a secret, though, is a new Unreal-difficulty Trial. Unreal Trials are similar to Extreme Trials, but have their level cap raised to the current level cap, increasing the difficulty. The new Unreal Trial is for the “Containment Bay P1T6” Trial, also known as the Sophia Trial, since players take on Sophia, a primal of the Warring Triad. The Sophia Trial was first introduced as part of the Heavensward expansion, which means even its Extreme-difficulty variant is capped at level 60, whereas the current level cap is 90.
FFXIV Patch 6.3 will also bring new raid content, in the form of the next Alliance Raid in the ongoing “Myths of the Realm” series. Alliance Raids are built for 24 players, and are some of the largest-scale content in FFXIV. The next Alliance Raid will be called Euphrosyne, and takes place after the previous Alliance Raid entry, Aglaia.
Check out some screenshots teasing the Alliance Raid content.
Additionally, the patch promises a new Ultimate Duty. Ultimate Duties (or Ultimate Raids) are some of the most complex and difficult content in the game, and a high-level expression of the Trial gameplay of fighting mechanically complex boss battles. The 5th Ultimate Duty is currently a secret, and will arrive two weeks after FFXIV Patch 6.3 goes live. Previous Ultimate Duties include The Unending Coil of Bahamut, The Weapon’s Refrain, The Epic of Alexander, and Dragonsong’s Reprise.
Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.3 is set to land in January 2023. The game is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC.
