Final Fantasy XIV Main Scenario Writer Reveals How Job Quests Are Conceptualized

In an interview with Japanese gaming publication 4Gamer, Main Scenario Writer for Final Fantasy XIV Banri Oda revealed how Job quests are conceptualized. Additionally, the interview also revealed choice bits of lore within the world of Eorzea. This included why the Scions of the Seventh Dawn have different tattoo placements and how players who have the Summoner Job can summon Phoenix. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

Oda went into detail regarding how the team conceptualizes the Job quests for Final Fantasy XIV. He explained that they tailor Job quests towards the role the player takes. For example, Job quests for Scholars, White Mages, and Astrologians will largely focus on their abilities to heal. Additionally, Oda stated that Beast Tribes quests receive this same consideration as well.

Future quests are conceptualized around the characteristics of the individual tribes. He also shared that it is important that these quests explore and focus on the appropriate themes and topics. This includes the creation of short stories for Final Fantasy XIV players, or for the Final Fantasy XIV’s Picture Book: Namazu and Something No One Has Ever Seen Before picture book.

The interview continued to explain how players are capable of summoning Phoenix. This segment does contain serious story spoilers for The Binding Coils of Bahamut questline, however. Oda mentioned that the Warrior of Light came into contact with dispelled aether as they traveled through the Carteneau Flats. This is how they are able to summon Phoenix.

Final Fantasy XIV is immediately available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
