One of Final Fantasy XIV‘s features returned following patch 6.01’s release. For a while, congestion meant certain capabilities ended up temporarily cut. However as of December 21, 2021, the FFXIV character renaming service returned.
On December 4, 2021, Square Enix took away the character renaming service in FFXIV. This turned out to be part of the fallout from the massive demand after the Endwalker expansion launch. The heavy strain on the systems affected things. It also would keep name changes made in Mog Station from going into effect. As such, the company temporarily halted them. However, patch 6.01 adjusted things in such a way that the feature could return.
There is a caveat to this. While FFXIV character renaming is back, randomly generated ones might not always be. The announcement noted that element won’t be possible when the game is congested.
This feature was one of many hit by the number of people playing. For example, sales and the free trial were also suspended. Automatic housing demolition also ended up suspended to help ease the load on the game.
Final Fantasy XIV and its Endwalker expansion are now available for the PS4, PS5, and PC. Patch 6.01 is also out now.
