FFXI Day of the Shadow Lord Event and Swords Return

Square Enix announced that we’ll see the Day of the Shadow Lord event in FFXI again, giving anyone who missed his three swords a chance to earn them. It will begin on August 30, 2024, and this time will run for about a month until September 30, 2024.

Day of the Shadow Lord first debuted in FFXI all the way back in 2018. It’s since returned on a yearly basis. Each time, it shows up at the end of August, then runs for the duration of September. The activity and rewards also remain unchanging.

What we have to do is head into The Shadow Lord battle. This is a Three Nations High-Tier Mission Battlefields fight. You’ll go into it with up to five people and will need to face and defeat the boss. If you beat it, you have a chance of getting the Extinction sword, Nihility sword, or Lament great sword. Square Enix didn’t share specific odds, but did note people who run the fight on higher difficulties like Difficult or Very Difficult are more likely to get one of the weapons.

This means that this event will return while the FFXI Return Home to Vana’diel Campaign is in effect. That began on August 23, 2024, and it gives PC players who stopped playing a chance to come back and play for a time for free. It ends on September 2, 2024.

Final Fantasy XI is available for PCs. The Day of the Shadow Lord event will only be around in FFXI starting on August 30, 2024, until it ends on September 30, 2024.
