Square Enix shared more information about the new Loveless theater play and Gold Saucer date mechanics in the upcoming remake FFVII Rebirth. Loveless is a mythical musical based on the epic poem of the same name that appears in the original Final Fantasy VII and Crisis Core FFVII.
One of the new systems that will be present in FFVII Rebirth are the Bonds of Friendship. Cloud’s actions and responses to his friends and party members will change how they see him. Players will have to think about which choices to make when a character they are interested in asks them. This system will affect scenes in FFVII Rebirth such as the iconic Gold Saucer date scene, which we can see pictured in the announcement screenshots below. Those images show Cloud dating Aerith, Tifa, Yuffie, and Barret.
In FFVII Rebirth, the new Loveless musical theater play will appear in the Gold Saucer as an audience participation program that uses the latest technology. The play will revolve around a hero’s journey to fight the Dragon King, the tyrannical ruler of Guardia, and the hero’s love for Princess Rosa.
The script of the Loveless play is another scene that will react to Cloud’s bonds and relationships, and will change according to his relationship with the FFVII Rebirth party members.
In the original FFVII, Loveless only appeared as a poster during the early Midgar section, and is mentioned briefly by Cid and other side characters. The name of the play is a reference to the album “Loveless” by Irish band My Bloody Valentine. In Crisis Core FFVII, the main antagonist Genesis is obsessed with the poem and its meaning.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will come to the PlayStation 5 on February 29, 2024, with the exclusivity arrangement ending on May 29, 2024. FFVII Remake is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC. A new trailer appeared at TGA 2023 and it showed Vincent and Cid.
