Koei Tecmo and Nintendo showed off the latest trailer for Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden during Tokyo Game Show today, and it gives us a closer look at the game’s setting at Hikami Mountain and its chilling story.
Ren Houjou, who visits the Hikami mountain in search for material for his next book, seems to be interested in a certain ritual that takes place there. The video shows the little girl telling the boy “you’ve finally come,” with the lady in traditional garment also repeating the same.
It looks like Ren gets more than he asked for, as he encounters an old lady who welcomes him and tells him that it looks like “Chigiri’s partner has already been chosen”. He then walks into a room, baffled and looking scared, when he sees the girl waiting for him.
The mountain seems to have a lot of unexplained mysteries going on with the lady in black being one of the key figures of the story. Miu Hinasaki is looking for her mother who disappeared and went to the mountains after hearing rumors about her being there.
At the end of the trailer, they show Miu waking up on a rowboat, and when she gets up, she happens to see someone on another passing boat. It looks like a lady in traditional white garment… to whom she yells out “mother!” She also looks like Miku Hinasaki from Fatal Frame and Fatal Frame III: The Tormented… could it truly be her?
You can read more details on the game’s characters in our earlier report. Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden will release in Japan on September 27, 2014 for Wii U.
