The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Zero came out in 2010 for PSP and tomorrow an enhanced version will be available for PlayStation Vita. It’s interesting to see Falcom hand the Trails series, one of their most important brands, to another publisher since they took Ys IV and developed the first in-house version, Ys Celceta for PlayStation Vita. When Siliconera met with Toshihiro Kondo we asked him about the arrangement with Kadokawa Games.
"Even from the start, we envisioned being able to put voice acting into Trails of Zero, but it was such a huge project we couldn’t go about doing it at that time. Kadokawa approached us later about the possibility of them redoing the game with full voice acting. The amount of work involved in that and the resources that’s something we couldn’t even imagine with the limited resources we have. Plus, we would like to focus our efforts on creating our next product," Kondo answered.
"We thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and give our title over to a third party such as Kadokawa that is capable of putting out a very high quality product including the full voiceovers, which we wouldn’t be able to do on own."
One of the major products Falcom is developing right now is the next Trails in the Sky title. In fact, most of their staff are working on it.
