Genshin Impact Natlan Explained

Natlan is the land of Pyro and the nation of war. Rather than being a single united nation, the new region is divided between seven tribes who are constantly at war with one another. Natlan lies on the other side of Sumeru’s desert. From the first Natlan teaser trailer, we can see that it’s filled with deserts, jungles, mesas, volcanoes, cliffs, and canyons.

The trailer shows us that we will be able to utilize the power of the local wildlife to traverse the landscape. Natlan appears to be based on Latin American cultures, especially the Aztec and the Mayan people. According to Neuvillette, many of its inhabitants possess draconic attributes. The dragons of Natlan live side-by-side with the humans and even start families with them.

We haven’t seen many people from Natlan throughout the Traveler’s journey so far. It seems that, for some reason, the people of Natlan prefer to remain in their homeland and not travel beyond their borders. It is unclear why this is as of yet or if it’s part of a larger plot point in the main story.

What We Know About The Pyro Archon

The Pyro Archin is the archon of war. There have been two Pyro Archons throughout history, but it’s unclear which is alive or deceased or if they rule Natlan side by side. One of them is named Murata, sharing a name with Himeko Murata from Honaki Impact 3rd and with Himeko in Honkai: Star Rail. It’s unknown how many similarities she shares with these characters, though.

This isn’t our first time seeing an Archon who is based on one of HoYoVerse’s previous characters. Ei, the Raiden Shogun of Inazuma, is based on Raiden Mei from Honkai Impact 3rd Raiden Mei is also Acheron’s real name in Honkai: Star Rail. We might be expecting something similar for Himeko and the Pyro Archon.

What We Know About Natlan’s Story And Plot, Incandescent Ode of Resurrection

Not much has been officially released about Natlan’s plot. As usual, we can expect the Traveler to try to get an audience with the Pyro Archon to help them find their sibling. We also know that the Fatui will be involved, based on what Neuvilette told us at the end of the Fontaine Archon Quest.

He said that Il Capitano, one of the Fatui Harbingers, has recently decided to participate in Natlan’s endless string of wars. Il Capitano is one of the strongest Fatui Harbingers. The last bit of information we have about Natlan’s plot is what Dainsleif says about it in the Teyvat Storyline Preview:

“The rules of war are woven in the womb. The victor shall burn bright, while the losers must turn to ash. When the god of war shares this secret with the Traveler, it is because she has her reasons.” What exactly this means, we can only speculate.

Genshin Impact is now available on Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
