Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is an upcoming remake of the 2004 classic Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Developed and published by Konami, it marks the first major entry in the franchise since 2018’s Metal Gear Survive.

Scheduled for a tentative 2024 release, this game aims to deliver a modern yet faithful reimagining of one of the series’ most beloved titles. The core story will likely remain the same, however it’s possible there could be some twists old fans won’t expect.

Set in 1964, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater follows FOX operative Naked Snake. He embarks on a mission to rescue a Russian rocket scientist and sabotage the Shagohod, a Soviet nuclear superweapon. This mission unfolds against the backdrop of Cold War tensions and culminates in a dramatic confrontation with his former mentor.

The development of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Konami’s internal studio, Konami Digital Entertainment, leads the development of the remake, with additional support from Singaporean studio Virtuos. The choice to remake Snake Eater was influenced by its status as the franchise’s chronological starting point. The project is supervised by Noriaki Okamura, producer of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and Metal Gear Survive.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater retains the core gameplay mechanics of the original. Classic staples like stealth, evasion, and a variety of environments. Enhancements include modern graphics, quality-of-life improvements, and visual updates that reflect physical damage on Snake in real-time. The game introduces two gameplay styles: “Modern Style,” with a contemporary control scheme and third-person camera, and “Legacy Style,” which replicates the original’s overhead view and classic controls.

Despite the departure of series creator Hideo Kojima, Konami promises a faithful adaptation, retaining the original voice recordings. The game will utilize Unreal Engine 5, marking a departure from the proprietary Fox Engine used in previous titles.

Additionally, fans can look forward to standard, Deluxe, and Collector’s Editions, featuring exclusive items like steel book cases, custom patches, and a “Terrarium Diorama” of the Dremuchij region tree.

With its combination of nostalgic gameplay and modern enhancements, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has plenty of hype for both longtime fans and newcomers to the franchise.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will come to the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2024.
