Sony has announced a worldwide goodwill initiative. In both North America and Europe, the company will be giving away two free PS4 games to everyone. Those who log into the PlayStation Store with their accounts between April 15-May 5, 2020 in North America and April 16-May 6, 2020 in most European countries will get both Journey and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. In total, this comes out to four free games for everyone. In China and Germany, Knack 2 will replace Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. In addition, the company is going to provide funding to indie developers.
Journey is the thatgamecompany classic about going on a journey with someone you don’t know and connecting with them along the way. Its story isn’t told through text and interactions are minimal. It started out as a PlayStation 3 game, before heading to the PlayStation 4, PC, and Apple iOS devices. It normally costs $14.99.
Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is a compilation of the first three games in the series. This means someone will get Uncharted, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. (Though, if someone is a PlayStation Plus member, then they might have already picked this up back in January 2020.) Its normal price is $19.99.
Once someone downloads both of these free PS4 games as part of the Play at Home initiative, they are theirs forever. Unlike PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection titles, there is no subscription stipulation. In addition, Journey is a cross-buy game, so you are getting the PlayStation 3 version too.
The other part of this Sony Play at Home initiative involves companies that would make PS4 games. Sony said in its announcement that a $10 million fund will be used to support independent developers. While details haven’t been announced, the money will go to help them continue to make games.
