Did you spend all that time to reserve your PS3 at Gamestop? Sadly you still might not get one on launch day. Sony announced that a shortage of Blu-ray drive parts may lead to less PS3s on the market.
“The honest answer is it’s more of a target” for PlayStation 3 shipments, Jack Tretton, co-chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment America, said yesterday in an interview. “Clearly we’ve had production issues.”
We contacted a handful of retail outlets in an urban area of California to see how many PS3s they were getting. A Circuit City store claimed at most 10 PS3s and the local Gamecrazy said that they would have at maximum four. In comparison the local Gamestop had eight for reserve orders.
In more positive PS3 news the first 500,000 North American PS3s get a copy of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby uncut edition packaged with their system. A downloadable game would have been better, but you’ll get to have Talladega Nights weeks before its North American DVD release.
