Etrian Odyssey Untold II: The Knight of Fafnir’s nameless protagonist has the power to transform into a beast and will put it to use while helping out the princess in the upcoming dungeon crawler. Atlus’ latest video puts him in the spotlight.

While the hero doesn’t speak much, he’ll be the one to make all of the important decisions for the party. At times, he’ll get questions from party members, such as the easy-going Paladin Bertrand, asking him “what does it feel like to protect someone?” as shown in the video.

A little flashback in the video shows the hero and the princess heroine Arianna holding hands by a tree, so it looks like the two are actually childhood friends. It’ll be his responsibility to keep her safe along their journey.

In combat, he’ll have the option to transform, which looks like it caught all the party members by surprise in the video, even the responsible happy-go-luck Ranger Flavio, who was also his childhood friend is shown looking pretty thrown-off.

While little is known about the hero’s beast mode transformation, judging by the trailer, it looks like it’ll be pretty powerful but also limited as well. You can also read more about the game’s new cooking system in our earlier report.

Etrian Odyssey Untold II: The Knight of Fafnir releases on November 27, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS in Japan.
