Atlus sent us a bunch of information on their new Nintendo DS game, Etrian Odyssey (Sekaiju no Meikyuu in Japan). Etrian Odyssey brings together some of Atlus’ most talented staff members together for the game’s production. Kazuya Niinou, the director of Trauma Center: Under the Knife, as the Etrian Odyssey’s director and the story is done by Shigeo Komori who worked on Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner. Lastly Yuzo Koshiro who did the sound design for Streets of Rage is bringing his skills to Etrian Odyssey. Etrian Odyssey takes place in Etria where they discovered a labyrinth deep in their land. Adventurers from around the world sought out the labyrinth and the fame from braving the challenge. In Etrian Odyssey you are going to play as a young adventurer who stepped past the town gates and is about to enter the labyrinth.
Etrian Odyssey uses the DS’ touch screen as a place where players can draw their own maps. Make a path, mark down where treasure chests are and spots where traps appear. There are nine different classes to play through in Etrian Odyessy including a woodland survivalist, a dark hunter who uses a whip and a shield-bearing protector. Combat is turn based with five members in a party.
