Last year, Namco Bandai and Heavenly Sword developer Ninja Theory partnered to make a game. That game is Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, a retelling on Journey to the West set 150 years in the future. You play as a futuristic Monkey King, who is simply called Monkey in this game.
Monkey is strong an athletic, but not fast enough to escape being captured by a slave ship. Trip, contrast to Monkey, is a techno-savvy woman who happens to be trapped on the same ship. Trip notices Monkey’s brute strength and see Monkey as her ticket to freedom. She hacks a slave headband and puts it on him. Now, the two characters are linked (if one dies, they both die) as they escape to the West.
Namco Bandai pulled in Hollywood talent to help develop this title. Screenwriter Alex Garland (28 Days Later and The Beach) co-wrote the game’s story and Andy Serkis who did mocap work for Gollum plays the role of Monkey.
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is scheduled for release this fall on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
