Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree is in Development

A new Elden Ring expansion DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, is in development. There is no information on what it will entail nor when to expect it. This is the first major add-on for Elden Ring, which became a year old as of February 25, 2023. Aside from the title, FromSoftware has also shared a key visual of the expansion.

Prior to this announcement, the only piece of DLC that Elden Ring had was the free colosseum update. Since Shadow of the Erdtree seems to be a massive expansion, it is unclear if it will be paid DLC or if it will be free as like the colosseum. In the Tweet advertising Shadow of the Erdtree, FromSoftware states that it hopes players look forward to “new adventures in the Lands Between.” This seems to imply a new area or story line to explore.

Elden Ring has been a major success for FromSoftware. Not only has it won Game of the Year at both the DICE Awards 2023 and The Game Awards 2022, FromSoftware reported that it has sold over 20 million units as of late February 2023. This is an increase of around 7 million since its financial report in May 2022.

Elden Ring is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Windows PC via Steam worldwide. The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion for Elden Ring is in development and more information on when to expect it, as well as what it will entail, will come out in the near future.
