It seems that Sawaki Takeyasu wasn’t kidding in those tweets from 2021 seeking recruits to help port El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron to Nintendo’s platform. An El Shaddai Switch port is indeed coming. The announcement came courtesy of an upload to Michael’s Hand, the official channel of Sawaki’s studio Crim, Inc.

The El Shaddai Switch port announcement itself comes closer to the end of the brief production. As development is ongoing, no gameplay footage was available, though Takeyasu promised more information on April 28, 2022. That day is the 11th Anniversary of El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron‘s first release on PS3 and Xbox 360 in Japan. Though initially met with lukewarm reception, the game went on to become a cult favorite of sorts, receiving a PC port in September 2021.
Other El Shaddai announcements besides the Switch port were on hand in the broadcast. The 9th volume of the El Shaddai light novel series goes on sale on April 28, 2022. The light novel series tells the backstory of the world of El Shaddai. According to Takeyasu, there’s enough backmatter in El Shaddai‘s setting that the game itself (Ascension of the Metatron) is essentially just the fourth chapter of the overall story.
El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is in development for the Nintendo Switch, with no release window set. The game is available on PS3 and Xbox 360, as well as PC via Steam.
