The official social media account for One Piece shared a message made by Eiichiro Oda at the 2024 Jump Festa. In the message, Oda hints at the Straw Hat Crew visiting “THAT island” in the One Piece manga, as well as his dream of an Emmy award win for the live-action adaptation.
Oda began by thanking fans for the success of One Piece Film: Red, which grossed over 20 billion Yen in Japan. He then mentioned that he spent about half of 2023 working with the One Piece live-action adaptation, which he considers a “massive success,” and expressed his hope of a Japanese manga adaptation winning an Emmy or Academy award.
After remarking on the anime adaptation’s upcoming 25th anniversary, Oda moved on to discussing the One Piece manga itself. He mentions the possibility of the characters visiting “THAT Island”, fighting to obtain “THAT THING,” and of an unexpected outcome of a fight between two unnamed characters. While Oda is playing coy to the point of being a joke, there’s a possibility that he’s referring to Raftel/Laugh Tale, an island that could contain the titular One Piece. As for who “THAT PERSON” and “THAT OTHER PERSON” are, those are nondescript enough to mean any two characters, but one could be Luffy.
