Get ready to exterminate giant insects on two consoles. Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon is a multiplatform title. Vicious Cycle, not Sandlot, is developing the next Earth Defense Force game for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. D3 Publisher acquired Vicious Cycle back in 2007. The studio went on to create Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard and most recently the Despicable Me video game.

While the series has a new developer, D3 promises the same kind of arcade style action as previous EDF titles. Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon takes place in New Detroit, which has been overrun by alien ants. It’s up to you, armed with four types of armor and 150 different kinds of weapons, to kill everything in sight and blow up as many buildings as you can in the process. As a first for the series, Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon has three player online co-op for the entire campaign mode. Vicious Cycle also created a six player survival mode where players fight through swarms and swarms of humongous bugs.

Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon is slated for spring 2011 in North America. Here’s a look at some of the game’s angry giant ants.
