Sony has announced a release date and price point for its newest PS5 controller model, the DualSense Edge. The highly customizable controller will release through PlayStation Direct on January 26, 2023, with pre-orders opening on October 25, 2022. Other retailers will also sell the controller beginning on February 23, 2023. It has a recommended retail price of $199.99 USD.
A video detailing the controller’s features can be watched below.
The previously announced DualSense Edge controller will offer numerous customization options. Stick caps, modules, and sensitivity are all open to personalization. There will also be changeable back buttons with button mapping options, adjustable stops for the adaptive triggers that feature haptic feedback, and a quick-swap feature for control profiles.
Plenty of accessories will come with purchases of the controller. Besides the controller itself, buyers will also receive a total of three stick cap sets in the form of standard, high dome, and low dome. Two sets of back buttons, a half dome and a lever, will come with it as well. A carrying case, connector housing, and lockable, braided USB charging cable round out the included accessories. Those looking to replace their stick modules can purchase those separately. The modules will release alongside the controller at a recommended retail price of $19.99.
The price tag of the Dualsense Edge is slightly more expensive than Microsoft’s Xbox Elite Series 2 Wireless Controller, which has a standard retail price of $179.00 USD. The Elite Series 2 includes a thumbstick adjustement tool, a charging dock, four back paddles, additional thumbsticks, and an additional D-pad. A “core” version with just the thumbstick adjustment tool retails for $129.99 USD.
The DualSense Edge releases worldwide on January 26, 2023, via PlayStation. It will release through other retailers on February 23, 2023, though which other retailers will offer it is not yet known. Pre-orders for the controller, which will cost $199.99, will open on PlayStation’s website on October 25, 2022.
