Dragon’s Dogma Quest is a mobile spinoff RPG title featuring characters and the world setting of Capcom’s popular action RPG, Dragon’s Dogma, where players control a party Peons to take on giant dragons and beasts. Recently, Dragon’s Dogma director Hideaki Itsuno spoke with Famitsu about the development of the iOS and upcoming Vita version of the game.

The interview starts out with Itsuno talking about how the development of Dragon’s Dogma Quest began.

“The development of Dragon’s Dogma Quest initially started as an online mobile game, for mobile platforms,” answers Itsuno. “The game was born after combining the plans of making a simple-to-play and genuine RPG, along with plans of having a strategic dungeon game with high-quality battles scenes.”

“Consequently, the parts that involve borrowing and lending with friends, reclaiming wide fields, and the exceptionally high strategy characteristics, all match the world of Dragon’s Dogma, which led to the development we have today.”

Itsuno also mentions that development didn’t even take a year, even with the designing stage included. Dragon’s Dogma Quest took roughly eight months to complete, after gathering ideas from team members upon finishing the development of Dragon’s Dogma on consoles.

While Dragon’s Dogma Quest is available on iOS, the PlayStation Vita version of the game will be available this fall. The game will be similar to its iOS counterpart, and it will be free-to-play with the addition of a similar billing method with features to assist those that don’t have a lot of time on their hands to play.

If you’re wondering about what other differences we’ll see in the PlayStation Vita version, Itsuno touches on the subject in the interview as well.

“The PlayStation Vita version won’t be played only using the touch screen, but we’re also making adjustments to allow for play that only uses the levers and buttons,” says Itsuno. “Again, it will be compatible with the rear touch pad, so you can expect some sort of feature support that allows you to play without covering the screen with your fingers.”

Itsuno continues, “It is also expected to be compatible with the PS Vita TV, so it will be possible to play on the big screen, using a controller. I think that it would also be nice to have PlayStation Vita version exclusive events for the game.”

Additionally, PlayStation Vita players will also be able to play with those who have the iOS version of the game.

Furthermore, an upcoming major update will be bringing new areas, story elements, jobs, monsters, dungeons and more that is currently in the works. The update is expected to boost the game’s playability, in addition to allowing players to further communicate with each other.

While Famitsu did try to sneak in a question regarding any possible future developments of Dragon’s Dogma for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Itsuno simply replied by saying, “It’s a secret.”

Finally, a message for the fans from Hideaki Itsuno:

“The controls are simple, and I think those of you who will be playing the game for the first time will have a good time. It is free of charge, so please go ahead and download it to try it out for yourself. Dragon’s Dogma Quest is an RPG that places exceptional importance on tactics and strategy. Try mixing up various job classes, and try playing with your very own party. It’s a traditional fantasy title, so if you enjoy the world of Dragon’s Dogma Quest, please try the console version, Dragon’s Dogma. The story is great!”

Dragon’s Dogma Quest is currently available for iOS devices, and is expected to launch sometime this fall for PlayStation Vita.
