The announcement comes from a recent Square Enix live stream, called “Let’s Play the Latest Apps of Dragon Quest Summer 2020.” You can check it out below:

The full title of the game is Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru and Luca’s Marvelous Mysterious Key SP. They basically added the “SP”  to the 3D remake’s title, similar to Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland SP which released for smartphones in Japan in November 2018.

Much like the previous entry’s smartphone release, Dragon Quest Monsters 2 SP will have several new features that make it easier to play on mobile devices. That starts with optimization for smartphones. It will also make it easier to grind with auto-battles. Furthermore, it will feature a whopping count of 900 monsters. That includes monsters from main-numbered titles, including monsters from the latest entry in Dragon Quest XI.

The game will feature asynchronous multiplayer battles with other players. A real-time versus mode will also be available as paid content through the “Battle Season Ticket” for 980 yen. There are several other new features, including the “Crest” system. Players will get to acquire Crests to give monsters major power-ups based on their traits.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2 first released for the Game Boy Color in Japan in March 2001. The 3DS remake released in February 2014.
