Kiryu’s Story Explained

Note: There are massive story spoilers ahead for the entirety of this game.

Before we dive into the answer to that heavily spoilery question, it is important to know the state of Kiryu at the start of this game. He presumably died to the world in Yakuza 6 but actually survived. He thus had to erase his name and become a hidden servant of the Daidoji Family, unable to speak to anyone from his past life.

In addition, at the start of this latest game, it is confirmed Kiryu now has cancer. To make matters worse, he only has six months to live. This sure makes it seem like his death is inevitable by the end of this game or soon thereafter. The question remains: does he die?

Does Kiryu Die in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth?

Editor Note: Massive spoilers are ahead for the entire game and its ending.

This is your final chance to turn away now before knowing the ending of this game, no matter what the result is. Still here? Alright, does Kiryu die in Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth? The answer is, no, he does not die in this game at all. He is alive and still somewhat kicking at the end of the game.

This may seem contrary to some of the major content in this game, which has to do with Kiryu coming to terms with his life and recapping everything that has ever happened to him. That said, he looks to be in terrible condition at the end, in a wheelchair at the hospital for his cancer treatment, and looking pretty rough. This may be the final game in which he will be playable and fighting so that he may take a step back as a side character in the future.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is now available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
