While we’re discussing Disgaea, Nippon Ichi is exploring new genres with the franchise in Makai Gakuen Disgaea (Hell High School Disgaea). Unlike all the console versions of Disgaea, Makai Gakuen Disgaea is a dungeon RPG designed for mobile phones. Players explore randomly generated dungeons in while being a student. Think Mana Khemia mashed with Diablo in 3D.
You start out as any ordinary student, but you can choose a concentration (read: class) to major in. The other classes (yes, classless is a class) should be familiar to Disgaea fans since they’re staples in the franchise. You can be a green haired warrior, prinny staff wielding wizard or an innocent looking archer, if you’re female. It looks like classes are partially determined by character gender similar to the series. If you want to be a monk, you better have a Y chromosome.
While Makai Gakuen Disgaea is a mobile phone game the amount of online communication options is staggering. Players can purchase and sell items in an online bazaar, start parties with friends and dual rivals in real time. Makai Gakuen Disgaea players can even share their journey by creating a diary complete with screenshots. Wow.
So… other sites are mentioning the N-Gage, which now has Metal Gear Mobile (side note: it’s been on Verizon Wireless). I would run out and get an N-Gage enabled phone if it had Makai Gakuen Disgaea.
