There are a number of Square Enix developed games on Xbox Live Arcade including Death by Cube. Crystal Defenders, which was originally an iPhone game, is their only multiplatform digital title. So, how come there isn’t say… a WiiWare version of 0 Day Attack on Earth or Yousmin on PlayStation Network?

We can’t answer that question for Square Enix’s entire downloadable catalog, but we have an answer in regards to Death by Cube. “We of course explored every possibility including handheld consoles and PC. When the project proposal was made, the market size of PlayStation Network or WiiWare were still unknown, and we were subject to a situation where it was difficult to extend the development size,” Yousuke Shiokawa, Director of Death by Cube, said to Siliconera in an interview.

“From these two viewpoints, we decided to release it for Xbox LIVE Arcade only. If the title is received well in the market as a new franchise, then I would say it opens up a lot of opportunities.”
