Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train is now the second-highest-grossing anime film in US box office history. Funimation celebrated the milestone via a news blog post. The movie is also the highest-grossing anime film of all time in the worldwide box office.
As of May 21, 2021, the Demon Slayer movie has grossed just under 44 million dollars at the US box office. Tanjiro Kamado and the gang knocked Pokemon: The Movie 2000 out of the second spot, taking its place. However, the film still has a ways to go before it can catch up to 1999’s Pokemon: The First Movie. That animated feature sits comfortably in the number one spot of highest-grossing anime films in the US at a little under 86 million dollars.
Additionally, the Demon Slayer movie is the highest-grossing anime film of all time both in Japan and worldwide. In Japan, it has earned just shy of 40 billion yen (approximately 367 million dollars) while the worldwide figure is a total of 477 million dollars.
The dark fantasy series continues its successful run with multiple forms of media. Earlier in May 2021, Aniplex confirmed the Demon Slayer stage play will return to theaters in Tokyo and Osaka. Additionally, Good Smile Company is rereleasing Nezuko and Zenitsu figures in its popular line of Nendoroids. And the upcoming video game Demon Slayer: Hinokami Kepputan will have multiple versions of Tanjiro Kamado to play as.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train is screening now in US theaters. It will release digitally on June 22, 2021.
