Publisher Aniplex announced in this week’s Jump that the popular Demon Slayer series, known as Kmetsu no Yaiba in Japan, is getting a PlayStation 4 game 2021. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089.]
The full title is Kimetsu no Yaiba: Hinokami Chifuutan. The genre is “competitive-demon-slaying action” so it sounds like some kind of versus-style game. Gameplay details were not shared in the magazine. So far we know its publisher is Aniplex but the developer is still unknown. However, makes it the first major Demon Slayer video game title.
As for the story of the game, it will follow the story of the original work. However, the magazine doesn’t have any images for the game, so we still don’t have an idea what it looks like. According to Ryokutya, so far it sounds like a game where the player takes on the role of the protagonist Tanjiro Kamado to re-experience the story. There’s a slogan that says “become Tanjiro Kamado on PS4!” to go with it.
The magazine also shows a URL for its official website for the new Demon Slayer game but it appears to be down for now, so we expect to hear more about it soon.
Koyoharu Gotoge’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga first serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2016. Its anime produced by studio Ufotable ran from April 2019 to September 2019 with 26 episodes. Its sequel film Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train is scheduled to premiere in 2020.
Demon Slayer: Hinokami Chifuutan will release for PlayStation 4 in Japan in 2021.
