At Evo 2019, the event organizers put together a “little joke” during the Tekken 7 Grand Finals that made it seem as though Solid Snake could be coming to the game. It later clarified this was a prank on Twitter and didn’t involve Bandai Namco. However, it turns out David Hayter, the longtime voice actor for Snake, was also not alerted or pleased with the video. He issued a statement on Twitter speaking out against it.

In Hayter’s comment, he noted that Evo did not consult Konami, the publisher for the Metal Gear series, or him about the joke. He expressed his disapproval at his voice being used without permission and noted he did not want to be involved in game promotion after as a result.

Evo has not responded to Hayter’s statement.

Evo 2019 was held August 2-4, 2019 in Las Vegas.
