Koshi Tachibana’s series consists of 22 volumes and ran in Japan for nine years. (Tsunako is the artist for them.) It follows Shido Itsuka, a high school student who learns that Spirits are the reason why odd sorts of earthquakes, known as spatial quakes, are occuring. Shido has the ability to seal a Spirit’s power, which involves forming relationships with and kissing them. In the first volume, he discovers he has this ability, meets the Spirit Tohka, and learns his younger foster sister is a commander of the Ratatoskr organization that deals with Spirits.

Date A Live spawned multiple video games and anime adaptations. The anime can be found on both Crunchyroll and Funimation, for example. Two of the games, Rinne Utopia and Arusu Install, were localized by Idea Factory International as Date A Live: Rio Reincarnation. Another follow-up, Ren Dystopia, will appear in Japan in September 2020. Also, Date A Live: Spirit Pledge is available on mobile devices worldwide.

The first Date A Live English light novel from Yen Press will appear in February 2021.
