Following Crunchyroll deciding to end its digital manga app in December 2023, Sony announced at CES 2025 that a new Crunchyroll Manga app and service will debut in 2025. It will only initially be available on Android and Apple iOS devices in the US and Canada. It is also designed to be its own service, though some Crunchyroll standard plans will include it.
The initial announcement went over some of the details. For example, this is designed to be an additional app and entity. Only North America was mentioned as a launch region for it. People who already have a subscription plan will apparently be able to pay extra to add this on. As a reminder, the three options for that right now are the $7.99 Fan one that is for one device, the $11.99 Mega Fan one that adds support for four devices, offline watching, and the Crunchyroll Game Vault, and the $15.99 Ultimate Fan one with everything from the previous tiers, 6 device support, and a swag bag after 12 months. (All subscriptions also offer varying degrees of Crunchyroll Store deals.)
It also teased that it won’t always be limited to mobile devices. The 2025 launch only confirmed support for those of us in the US and Canada. It also only mentioned the app for mobile devices. However, it will also supposedly support browsers for viewing on things like PCs too. As for content, the Crunchyroll Manga app announcement only mentioned series from “renowned publishers.”
Crunchyroll’s first manga digital service offered series to read for about 10 years. It first stopped adding to its collection on November 7, 2023. After that, it completely shut that area down on December 11, 2023.
The Crunchyroll Manga app will launch on Android and Apple iOS devices in the US and Canada in 2025.
