Crossovers We Want to See in Sonic the Hedgehog x DC Comics

There have been many crossover events in the past with the famous blue blur, but Sonic the Hedgehog x DC Comics collaboration might be the most bizarre and coolest one yet. If you haven’t heard, Sega of America and Warners Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products will launch a comic book series next year, seeing Sonic the Hedgehog characters dressing up as DC Comics superheroes and helping out the famous Justice League.

It was first teased on Batman Day, on September 21 2024, as an animated clip was shared on DC’s and Sega’s social media accounts, showcasing Shadow the Hedgehog as the legendary cape crusader. Earlier this week, at the Sonic Central livestream, it was announced that a monthly Sonic the Hedgehog x DC Comics crossover comic series will run from March 2025 until July 2025, written by Ian Flynn, the current lead writer for the Sonic IDW Comics. They seem to have big plans for this crossover, as they have confirmed this project will run until 2026 with merchandise and licensed products.

The characters confirmed so far are Sonic as Flash, Shadow as Batman, Knuckles as Superman, Amy as Wonder Woman, Tails as Cyborg, and Silver as the Green Lantern. Some of these pairings seem solid. Shadow perfectly fits Batman’s persona, and it’s mildly amusing to think that Knuckles is Superman when you consider he has dedicated his life to protecting the Master Emerald but will be dressing up as a superhero who is weak to green kryptonite. Tails as Cyborg is probably the oddest crossover combination, as he would fit Robin more on paper, but clearly, they leaned into Tails’ mechanical side and wanted to keep with prominent team members of the Justice League.

Although there is no confirmation of any other characters appearing in this crossover event yet, hopefully, different characters will pop up in this collaboration and will dress up as prevalent figures from the DC Comics universe. Here are some ideas that might be fun to see in the Sonic the Hedgehog x DC Comics crossover.

Doctor Eggman as Lex Luthor

Doctor Eggman is a mad genius with a pure hatred for Sonic the Hedgehog and will do anything to eradicate him. It sounds very similar to Lex Luthor if you replace the anamorphic hedgehog with Superman instead, right? It would be interesting to see Doctor Eggman and Lex Luther bounce nefarious ideas off one another, conjuring up wicked ways to take down their arch-enemies once and for all. Also, could you imagine some of the mecha robots they could make together? If done correctly, that could lead to impactful moments and exciting fights.

Rouge as Catwoman

Out of all the entries in this list, this is the most realistic and likely one to be featured in the Sonic the Hedgehog x DC Comics crossover, as this pairing is a no-brainer. Rouge was first introduced in Sonic Adventure 2 as a cunning jewel thief not intimidated by getting into a fight if needed, so her as Catwoman would be spot on. Rouge also has a strong connection with Shadow, and Catwoman is often perceived as an ally of the bat family, so this would match up nicely with an already confirmed character crossover.

Charmy as Shazam

This one may seem strange, but as Shazam used to be part of the Justice League, this might be more likely to appear than others on this list. There are obvious similarities, such as Charmy and Shazam often playing the role of comedy relief in the team. However, the main striking feature is that Charmy is the youngest member of the Chaotix Detective Agency, and Shazam ultimately left the Justice League due to members being concerned with his age and lack of skills in specific scenarios. These two characters, together, could have a lot to bond over and have some heartfelt scenes.

Blaze as Raven

Blaze is another character who could hypothetically team up with many DC Comics superheroes, but Blaze with Raven would be fantastic. They can both be perceived as very serious at times, but they sincerely care about their friends, which could lead to many enduring moments between the pair. They also harbour Pyrokinesis, the ability to control and manipulate fire, and the duo teaming up together could result in some genuinely spellbinding moments. Plus, Blaze wearing Raven’s cape would no doubt become an iconic look for the character.

Fang as Deathshot

In last year’s title, Sonic Superstars, Fang returned as a primary antagonist to the famous blue hedgehog. Fang would suit teaming up with many DC Comics supervillains, with The Penguin being a good example, as they both have quirky hats and often rely on guns. But there is something sinister about the concept of Fang teaming up with Deathshot, which would make a fascinating and engrossing read. Their ruthless nature could seriously threaten the Sonic team and the Justice League.

Espio as Nightwing

On paper, this duo should have perfect synergy. These two characters are fiercely loyal, have strong moral compasses, and would do anything for the people they class as most important to them. This twosome act would be great, lurking in the shadows together, using their acrobat abilities to take down any foe in their way. In many regards, the Batarang is pretty much a gloried shuriken, so it would be second nature for Espio, a ninja, to use these in combat scenarios. But it would also be cool to see Espio rock out a set of Escrima sticks like Nightwing.

Vector as John Constantine

Vector is one of the longest-running Sonic the Hedgehog characters, so it would be a shame if he missed out on this crossover event, and this match-up would be hilarious. These two characters technically share the same occupation as Vector is the ringleader of the Chaotix Detective Agency, and John Constantine is also a detective. Both characters are obnoxiously confident and have their shrewd sides at times, but deep down, they want to help others and will do anything to solve a case. This entry will probably not happen, but it would be downright funny to see.
